Prior to moving to Singapore, Dr. Jayantha Gunaratne obtained his PhD from the Tokyo Institute of Technology, where he worked on gas and liquid chromatography, mass spectrometry and NMR technologies. He then pursued his postdoctoral work on genome annotation and proteonomics at the Scripps Institution, University of California San Diego, USA. He was a founding member of the Mass Spectrometry and Systems Biology Laboratory at IMCB.
The Translational Retinal Research Laboratory works closely with his lab to explore the mechanisms and effects of the new therapies on the retina.
Professor Lim Kah Leong
Vice Dean at the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, Nanyang Technological University

A/Prof Lim Kah Leong is the recipient of 2018 President’s Science Award – the highest accolade for top research scientists and engineers for their outstanding contributions to the scientific community.
A/Prof Lim is part of a quartet studying Parkinson’s disease and successfully created the world’s first live human midbrain in the laboratory. The long term goal of his lab is to elucidate the molecular events underlying Parkinson’s disease with the view of developing novel therapies aimed at effectively treating the disease.
The Translational Retinal Research Laboratory works closely with his lab to grow RPE cells from umbilical cord lining derived iPS cells.

As a pioneer in the area of biodegradable thermogels, Assistant Professor Loh Xian Jun’s lab is focused on developing these materials for various biomedical applications.
Assistant Professor Loh Xian Jun has extensive experience in authoring > 200 journal papers, 38 patents and know-hows, > 30 book chapters and 7 books. He currently sits on several editorial boards of international journals as an expert in his field.
The Translational Retinal Research Laboratory works closely with his lab to produce novel retinal tamponade materials.
Professor Tim Blenkinsop
Cell Developmental and Regenerative Biology, Mt Sinai, New York
Tim’s lab works to understand the basic biology of the adult human eye in an effort to reveal mechanisms for regeneration, with a focus on RPE related disease.
The Translational Retinal Research Laboratory works closely with his lab to develop assays for the characterisation of RPE function, as well as interrogate the RPE’s role in proliferative vitreo-retinopathy.
